A surprising addition to this year’s NBAA-BACE, Boom Supersonic is making its debut at the business aviation trade show. The Colorado-based startup—best known for its development of a boomless supersonic airliner—says it has no immediate plans to enter the supersonic business jet market.
Earlier this year, Boom’s XB-1 demonstrator aircraft broke the sound barrier six times during flight tests, all without generating an audible sonic boom at ground level. The successful trials marked a major milestone in what the company calls its “boomless cruise” technology. Boom says its Overture airliner, which will seat between 60 and 80 passengers, is designed to fly up to 50% faster than conventional aircraft over land and twice as fast over water.
To power the Overture, Boom is developing its own Symphony turbofan engines and plans to begin ground testing soon at a dedicated facility being built at the Colorado Air and Space Port. By early 2026, the company expects to generate thrust in full engine core tests, which will assess the performance of key components, including the compressor, combustor, and turbine.
