Textron Aviation successfully completes flight with CJ3

Textron Aviation has marked an important milestone in the development of its next-generation light jet lineup as the Cessna Citation CJ3 Gen3 successfully completed its maiden flight. The achievement represents another significant step toward certification and brings the aircraft closer to its anticipated entry into service in 2027.

The inaugural flight departed from Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport, where test pilots Steve Helmer and Dave Welbrock conducted a comprehensive evaluation lasting nearly two hours. During the mission, the aircraft climbed to 41,000 feet and reached a speed of 278 knots indicated airspeed (KIAS) while engineers and pilots assessed key aircraft systems, including the latest cockpit software and avionics functionality.

The CJ3 Gen3 is the newest addition to Textron Aviation's expanding Gen3 family, joining the Citation CJ4 Gen3 and Citation M2 Gen3, both of which are also progressing through flight testing. Together, these aircraft reflect the company's ongoing commitment to modernizing its renowned Citation series with enhanced technology, improved pilot experience, and advanced safety features.

One of the standout upgrades on the CJ3 Gen3 is the integration of Garmin Emergency Autoland into the aircraft's Garmin G3000 avionics suite. This innovative system is designed to automatically land the aircraft safely in the event the pilot becomes incapacitated, guiding the jet to a suitable airport while communicating with air traffic control and bringing the aircraft to a controlled stop. The technology continues to set a new benchmark for safety in the light business jet market.

Designed for both corporate and private operators, the Citation CJ3 Gen3 offers an impressive balance of performance, efficiency, and cabin comfort. The aircraft can accommodate up to 10 occupants, making it well suited for business travel, charter operations, and owner-pilot missions alike.
